Colorado has been my home for over 35 years. I have lived in Wisconsin (originally), Longmont, Denver, Aurora and now Lakewood. Growing up in Wisconsin was a lot of fun. Since I was a very young girl, I have been fascinated with houses. Going outside every day, we all played in a heavily wooded lot behind our house where we invented “rooms” in a big tree fort. It had a kitchen with a giant rock that we used as the stove – that’s where we “fried” milkweed pods because they looked like fish – and a living room with big rock furniture. It was the best place for kids to be inventive, creative, imaginative and playful.
While in high school, I worked at the local supermarket as a cashier where I developed a strong work ethic, customer service skills and grown-up responsibilities. I also developed a passion for art and architecture in high school. I even thought I was going to go to college to study art. But a couple tough life lessons changed that course, and I found myself as a single mom working my way through a two-year business degree program at the local technical college. That degree served me well. After moving to Colorado with a new husband and another toddler in tow, I got my first real job in the corporate world. I worked my way up the ranks and was soon managing a large department at a professional development seminar company in Boulder. That job provided my background in business management, personnel development, leadership and computer skills and interpersonal skills.
By 2002, I had developed a resume I was very proud of with extensive management experience in the corporate world. But something was still missing. My passion for houses! In a huge AHA! moment, I decided to change course, and I signed up at a local community college to begin studying interior design. I quickly saw the opportunity to further challenge myself by transferring to a 4-year undergrad program in architecture. It took me a total of 7 years of full-time college work and working a part-time job to earn my Master’s degree in Architecture with an emphasis on historic preservation and old homes. I now specialize in the sale of historic homes as a full-time real estate agent.
My husband, Bruce and I have been married for over 17 years and we enjoy spending time taking road trips across the western US, and hiking and camping. We have a BIG goal to through-hike the Colorado Trail some day. When I'm not out hiking or touring our lovely historic neighborhoods, you might find me taking my camera out for a day of photographing landscapes, architecture, wildflowers or streetscapes. And I'm super excited about my newest project - restoring a cute little vintage camper (her name is Olive) to take on a trip along the iconic Route 66!
